I love it out here.

My private office, coming together nicely. I decided the new apartment couch should go inside the house instead of my work space, so Tom picked me out a really comfortable Menards recliner. Of course, now I need another lamp, a side table and someone to walk across the room and get me that water bottle.... zzzzzz.

Jack is now 12 and a middle schooler. He is on the honor roll, grows an inch a day (seems like), did cross country this year, enjoys rock climbing, ran his first 5ks alongside his parents last fall, is excellent on the piano, at drawing, at constructing custom Lego figures, and is far too embarrassingly good at any video game he gets his hands on. *He still struggles with writing.

Because of Jack, we researched the benefits/necessity of optimal health nutrition, and so we've become a strict nutritionally conscientious family since 2011. This change did more for all of us than anything we ever tried. I highly recommend looking into healthy eating... but I've learned the hard way on several occasions that not everyone is interested in making that change. Feel free to contact me if you want to compare notes.

Please don't waste your time telling me the food we eat is not scientifically linked to how our bodies perform.

Pickles

Pick (the mature 3rd grader formerly known as "Pickles") is now demanding that I check with her before posting anything about her.

Can you believe that!?!

Pick has been our smooth sailing child since the day she was born and her brother's most important speech therapist. She was an early talker, early walker, taught herself potty training (she'll kill me for that), never spent a day in preschool or daycare but was placed in high ability class beginning in second grade, which is the equivalent of placing a child a grade or two ahead without removing her from her age specific peer group. She scores highly on standardized tests, can calculate your grocery bill for you while walking through the store, LOVES children/babies especially, loves drawing, SIMS, pop music (Lana Del Ray? Really?), sequins, goofy hats, and walking into her room is like visiting a fairy city -- not because it's frou frou, but because every tiny creature, doll, Calico Critter, etc. has been given a place and vocation within her society. You feel like a giant who's just tripped and stood up inside a tiny messed up utopia.

Her handwriting is pretty messy, and she leaves her socks underneath the computer desk every.single.day. Also, she hates brushing her hair... which is probably why she loves goofy hats so much.

Bobby Jim Jim ("It's just BOBBY!") remains her constant creepy companion on all her non-school days. All babies who've visited our home are in love with Bobby JJ. Personally, I don't get it, the Bobby love, and it shows. At least a dozen strangers have been duped into thinking I was mishandling my infant child out in public because of Bobby. I love that she still loves him, because that means she's still my little girl, but some times I worry he's an evil space alien sent here to get me arrested.
